TYPES OF COMPUTER NETWORKS

COMPUTER NETWORKS:

A computer network is a collection of connected computers that allows one computer to talk with another and share resources, data, and software.

TYPES OF COMPUTER NETWORKS:

  •    LAN (Local Area Network)
  •     PAN (Personal Area Network)
  •     MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)
  •   WAN (Wide Area Network)

LAN(Local Area Network)

  •   A local area network comprises several connected computers in a confined space, like an office or building.
  •   Through a communication medium like a twisted pair, coaxial cable, etc., LAN is used to connect two or more personal computers.
  •     Due to the use of less expensive components such as hubs, network adapters, and Ethernet cables, it is less costly.
  •     In a local area network, data transport happens incredibly quickly.
  •   Local area networks offer higher security.

 PAN(Personal Area Network)

  •    Inside one individual, typically within a 10-meter radius, a personal area network is set up.
  •    The term "personal area network" refers to a network used to connect personal computing devices.
  •    Study scientist Thomas Zimmerman first proposed the Personal Area Network.
  •    The personal area network covers a 30-foot area.
  •   The laptop, mobile phone, media player, and play station are personal computer devices used to create the private area network.

 MAN(Metropolitan Area Network)

  •   A metropolitan area network connects various LANs to create a more extensive network that serves a greater geographic area.
  •   To communicate with the public and business sectors, government organizations use MAN.
  •   In MAN, a telephone exchange line connects several LANs.
  •   RS-232, Frame Relay, ATM, ISDN, OC-3, ADSL, and other frequently used protocols in MAN include.
  •   Its range is greater than that of a Local Area Network (LAN).

WAN(Wide Area Network)

  •   A wide geographic area, such as many states or an entire country, is covered by a Wide Area Network.
  •    A Wide Area Network is a lot larger than a Local Area Network.
  •   A Wide Area Network connects multiple locations across a broad geographic area through a phone line, fiber optic cable, or satellite connectivity.
